The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev he was re-elected to the leadership of Uzbekistan for a new seven-year term. This was established by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) when it released the preliminary results of the presidential elections held yesterday in the Central Asian country. 15,6 million voters went to the polls, 79,9 percent of those eligible.
In favor of Mirziyoyev, candidate of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (Uzlidep), 87,05 percent of the votes went. Robakhon Mahmudova, candidate of the Adolat (Justice) party, stopped at 4,43 percent; Ulugbek Inoyatov, of the People’s Democratic Party, to 4,02 per cent; Abdushukur Khamzaev, of the Ecologist Party, to 3,74 percent. the president will be able to pursue the strategy for the construction of a “New Uzbekistan” with greater determination.
The Russian president Vladimir Putin he immediately congratulated Mirziyoyev on his re-election as head of state: “Please accept my sincere congratulations on your re-election to the post of President of Uzbekistan. We very much appreciate your principled approach on strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between Russia and Uzbekistan,” Putin wrote.
The elections were monitored by 971 observers. Many were sent by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Council of the Organization of Turkish States and the ‘Organization of Islamic Cooperation; others (340) come from about 50 foreign countries. 10.784 polling stations have been installed in the country, including 56 in 39 countries abroad.
